Standard MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) is not waterproof. It’s made from wood fibers and resin under high pressure, making it dense and smooth — but also sensitive to moisture and water exposure. When it gets wet, regular MDF can swell, warp, or lose strength.
However, Moisture-Resistant MDF (MR MDF) is specially treated with resins to improve humidity resistance, making it suitable for kitchens, bathrooms, and other indoor damp areas. Still, it’s not 100% waterproof. For outdoor or high-moisture conditions, marine plywood, PVC board, or WPC board are better choices.
