Product FAQ

What is Plywood?

Plywood is a board-type material made by rotary-cutting logs into veneers or slicing timber into thin sheets, which are then bonded together with adhesives into three-layer or multi-layer panels. It is typically manufactured with an odd number of veneer layers, with the grain direction of adjacent layers arranged perpendicular to each other.

Plywood, also known as multi-layer board, is one of the most commonly used materials in furniture manufacturing. Generally, the face veneer and inner layers of high-grade plywood are symmetrically arranged on both sides of the core layer or panel center. Common types include three-ply and five-ply boards. Plywood improves wood utilization efficiency and is an important way to conserve timber resources.

Multi-layer board is widely used in furniture processing enterprises and belongs to the category of engineered wood panels. A set of veneers is typically assembled with adjacent grain directions perpendicular to each other and then bonded and pressed under heated or unheated conditions after adhesive application. The number of layers is usually odd, although even-layer panels are also produced in some cases. Because of its cross-laminated structure, the physical and mechanical properties in the longitudinal and transverse directions are relatively balanced.

Plywood offers advantages such as light weight, high strength, good elasticity and toughness, resistance to impact and vibration, ease of processing and finishing, as well as good electrical insulation properties. In addition to furniture applications, it is widely used in aircraft, shipbuilding, railway vehicles, automotive manufacturing, construction, and packaging materials such as crates and pallets.

Multi-layer board is also commonly referred to as three-ply or laminated board, with naming varying depending on the number of layers. According to thickness, panels ranging from 3 mm to 9 mm are often referred to as “3–9 li boards” in industry terminology (here “li” is a conventional unit name and does not represent centimeters).

Our company specializes in the large-scale production of 4×8 ft plywood and multi-layer boards, including standard plywood, parallel-grain plywood, cut-to-size plywood, shaped plywood, special-shaped multi-layer boards, poplar LVL (laminated veneer lumber), as well as pallet boards, packaging case panels, furniture boards, and various wooden pallets and crates.
